Game of Thrones’ final season to debut in the first quarter of 2019

The final season of the award-winning drama series, Game of Thrones is set to make its debut in the first quarter of 2019.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour this week, HBO programming president Casey Bloys revealed that Game of Thrones will return for its final six episodes in the first half of 2019. He however, did not disclose what to expect from the final adventures of Jon Snow, Daenerys Targeryen, Tyrion Lannister and more of our favorite Throne characters.

Meanwhile, in the spinoff stories, which had fans expectant of four Game of Thrones prequel. Bloys disclosed that only one will be in the works with the other three shut down. The one prequel will be based on the story created by Jane Goldman and Franchise mastermind, George R.R. Martin, set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. It’s said to focus on ‘The Long Night’, a period of Westeros history in which humans first fought the dreaded White Walkers.

“We’re just starting the search for director and casting director. We hope the spinoff will begin shooting somewhere next year. Beyond that, no plans to make others,” Bloys said.

Game of Thrones is based on the bestselling book series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ by George R.R. Martin. It depicts the story of two powerful families, King and queens, Knights and renegades, liars and honest men playing a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and to sit atop the Iron Throne.

The first episode was released on April 17, 2011 and has since then become the favorite of many leading to its multiple award nominations and win. The drama series is up for 22 Emmys this year.
