International Women’s Day has become a day to look forward to for many people across the globe. With this digital issue, we pay tribute to the strength, resilience, and vibrant spirit of women who have impacted society in their small way, from all walks of life. We celebrate the decades of rebelling, truth-telling, and most audacious yet often overlooked women in our society.

The theme for this year’s IWD celebration, “Inspire Inclusion”, does not only reflect gender equality but also calls for action to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create environments where all women are valued and respected. “Inspire Inclusion” encourages everyone to recognize the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life, from women in the board room to women in our local markets.

The Makola Market Women – Comfort Fofo Mills, Gifty Ameley, and, Julianna Kwei Teley from the Happy Town Project have taken social media by storm with their infectious and amusing TikTok dance challenges, bringing life and laughter to the marketplace, our homes, and across the globe. They are a testament to women’s strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit, challenging societal stereotypes and proving age is just a number and that anyone can be a viral sensation.

The Happy Town Project was founded by a Ghanaian dancer Ernest Raja Nettey, popularly known as Starter with the sole purpose of spreading positivity and uplifting communities through dance. It has achieved its purpose as they have gained attention and won many hearts both on and off social media.

Beyond the viral fame, these women are a powerful reminder that women of all ages have a voice, a story to tell, and many moves to share with the world. They inspire us to embrace our individuality, celebrate our differences, confidently step out of our comfort zone, and be our true happy selves.

These women, in the face of challenges, raised families, built their businesses from scratch, defied ageist notions, and reinvented what it means to be a “viral sensation. They are very appreciative of all the love and support from people and know this is just the beginning of beautiful things in their lives. Their achievement has shown the world that joy has no age limit and that young women are capable of doing amazing things in their lives, all while staying true to their authentic selves.

So, the next time you scroll through social media and see a dance video from them that makes you smile, don’t forget to like, comment, and share. They’re a vibrant reminder that life is for living, joy is for sharing, and age is truly just a number. Let their story inspire you to embrace your passions, defy expectations, and rewrite the rules – with a smile and a dance move, of course.

Happy International Women’s Day to all women across the globe.
