‘Game of Thrones’ prequel ‘House of the Dragon’ cast Paddy Considine

‘Game of Thrones’ prequel ‘House of the Dragon’ has cast Paddy Considine as its first lead character.

Considine will play King Viserys Targaryen, chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.

The prequel is based on ‘Game of Thrones’ creator George R.R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’ set 300 years before the events that took place in the over a year concluded drama series.

Martin and Ryan Condal (‘Colony’ creator) are co-creating the show. Miguel Sapochnik will direct the pilot and additional episodes. Condal will pen the script alongside Sara Lee Hess, who will again serve as showrunner together with Sapochnik. Martin, Condal, Hess, Sapochnik and Vince Gerardis will all executive produce the 10-episode series.

Considine co-starred on the first season of HBO’s drama series ‘The Outsider’ and is currently seen in the HBO/Sky Atlantic limited miniseries ‘The Third Day’. His credits also include ‘Journeyman’, ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Hot Fuzz’, ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’, ‘In America’ and ‘The Ferryman’. He is repped by Nick Forgacs at Independent Talent Group, and Michael Cooper at Range Media Partners.
