‘The Lighthouse’ & ‘Uncut Gems’ lead 2020 Film Independent Spirit Awards

2020 award season is molding itself gradually for a quick start. Before the Oscars and colleague award ceremonies mention their lineup of nominees, the Film Independent Spirit Awards took the lead yesterday, scoring ‘The Lighthouse’ and ‘Uncut Gems’ with the highest number of nominations (five each) for the 2020 show.

‘Give Me Liberty’ and ‘Honey Boy’ follow closely with four nods apiece. Jennifer Lopez, who immediately after the premiere of ‘Hustlers’ at the Toronto International Film Festival started grabbing an award contender attention, enveloped a supporting female actress nomination, alongside Oscar winning actress, Octavia Spencer for ‘Luce’.

‘Uncut Gems’, ‘A Hidden Life’, ‘Clemency’, ‘The Farewell’ and ‘Marriage Story’, are up for best feature, whiles Robert Eggers for ‘The Lighthouse’, Alma Har’el for ‘Honey Boy’, Julius Onah for ‘Luce’ Benny and Josh Safdie for ‘Uncut Gems’ and Lorene Scafaria for ‘Hustlers’ all earned a best director nomination pickup.

The 2020 Spirit Awards will be held inside Santa Monica on February 8, 2020.
