Priyanka Chopra & Gwyneth Paltrow among Create & Cultivate 2020 honorees

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Gwyneth Paltrow are among honorees for the 2020 Create & Cultivate 100 list. The actresses are recognized for their achievements in entertainment and entrepreneurship over the past years and will be celebrated in downtown Los Angeles on Valentine’s day.

Other notable names that made it on the list include super model Tyra Banks, Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo, actresses Shay Mitchell and Jameela Jamil, stylist Karla Welch, Rihanna’s Fenty makeup artist Priscilla Ono, and several other power names in the industry.

As honorees of the upcoming gala, Chopra and Paltrow took turns in answering some questions posed to them by Create & Cultivate, and below are their answers to the asked questions.

What do you do when you hit a bump or hurdle in your career?

PRIYANKA CHOPRA JONAS I always find that acknowledging the failure and coming to terms with it, helps you move forward — then it doesn’t come back to haunt you or cause self-doubt later. Also, I have always believed in exploring all aspects of my creative self, which is why I am always pushing myself to explore new areas and try my hand at it. I never say I can’t do something until I’ve tried it. In the world we live in today, and the immense amount of opportunities out there, it’s important to remember that it’s not a single lane of traffic but an eight-lane highway to an endless world of opportunities.

What’s the hardest professional decision you’ve made?

PRIYANKA CHOPRA JONAS Every few years I’ve found I am faced with a hard decision that is imperative to make and critical to my career. It comes in waves. The big one I can remember is the decision to work in Hollywood, while still having a thriving and very relevant career in India. In hindsight, I am glad I took the leap and that it paid off, but at the time it was a huge risk. What I learned in the process is that if you don’t take chances, if you don’t push yourself to do things that make you uncomfortable, you never evolve — and for me, evolution is important in my personal and professional life. Ultimately, it’s what allows you to define your own road.

What’s your leadership style and what have you learned at Goop?

GWYNETH PALTROW I’m a perfectionist, and I can be very demanding of myself, which is something I’m trying to work on personally. I expect a lot from my team but in the same respect, I try to lead with empathy. I want my team to feel that they have autonomy and to cultivate an environment where people can take risks, be collaborative and not feel paralyzed by the fear of failure. As we scale, we’re less like the little family we were for the first iteration of the company, but it’s crucial to me that we sustain our values. It’s not a top-down thing; everyone in the company needs to feel responsible for the culture we create.

At age 37, Chopra has starred in both Hollywood and Bollywood blockbuster films and will next be seen in the developing Netflix films ‘The White Tiger’ and ‘We Can Be Heroes’. Paltrow on the other hand, is a Primetime Emmy award winner and Golden Globes nominee; she was last seen in the 2019 Netflix comedy-drama series ‘The Politician’.
