‘Parasite’ wins Film of the Year at London Film Critics’ Circle Awards

Bong Joon Ho’s 2019 drama/mystery film ‘Parasite’ won big last night at the London Film Critics’ Circle Awards. The 40th edition of the award ceremony ended with ‘Parasite’ winning Film of the Year.

Adding to its big win, the film’s director Bong Joon Ho also took home the best director honor. In the acting categories, Joaquin Phoenix ‘Joker’ and Renee Zellweger ‘Judy’ won for best actor and actress, whiles Joe Pesci ‘The Irishman’ and Laura Dern ‘Marriage Story’ both won for best supporting actor and actress respectively.

Robert Pattinson was named British/Irish actor of the year for ‘The Lighthouse’, ‘High Life’ and ‘The King’. Florence Pugh, who appeared in some talked about films of 2019 was also named British/Irish actress of the year for ‘Midsommar’, ‘Little Women’ and ‘Fighting With my Family’.

Aside Dern winning for ‘Marriage Story’, the film’s writer Noah Baumbach also won screenwriter of the year. ‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire beat’ surprisingly won foreign language of the year over ‘Parasite’.

In other parts of the ceremony’s categories, Mark Jenkin came on top as breakthrough British/Irish filmmaker of the year for his film project ‘Bait’. Sally Potter and Sandy Powell both received the Dilys Powell Award for career achievement.
