Natalie Portman named as Mighty Thor in developing ‘Thor’ sequel

For the sequel version of Marvel Studio’s ‘Thor: Ragnorak’, the famous Thor hammer will be wielded by Oscar winning actress Natalie Portman. The first lady Thor picture will go by the title ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. Portman was last seen in the Thor franchise in 2013, where she played the character Dr. Jane Foster in ‘Thor: The Dark World’.

The sequel will be based on an existing 2014 comic book storyline where Thor (Chris Hemsworth) loses his abilities and Jane Foster, who will be called Mighty Thor wields his powers and magical hammer Mjolnir.

Cast members for sequel already includes Chris Hemsworth and Thessa Thompson, together with 2017’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ director Taika Waititi. Plot details are yet to be disclosed for media reports except for the mentioned character names and confirmations.

Chris Hemsworth’s role in the developing sequel is likely to run through less scenes, following the end of Thor in the recently concluded ‘Avengers: Endgame’ where fans witnessed his renouncement as ruler of Asgard to join the Guardians of the Galaxy team, and appointed Thompson’s Valkyrie character as replacement.

‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ will mark the fourth installment in the franchise and the first for a female actor as ruler of Asgard plus wielder of the Thor hammer.
