Ghana Women of the Year 2020 – Celebrating Women Excellence Across Spheres

On Saturday, September 26, 2020, the fifth Ghana Women of the Year Honours took off at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra in a glamorous ceremony.

The Ghana Women of the Year Honours is an annual event organised by Glitz Africa to celebrate women excelling in various spheres in Ghana and the diaspora to inspire the younger generation to keep pushing for the development and prosperity of our beloved motherland.

The Honourees for the event were:

  • Corporate Personality – Elsie Addo Awadzi (2nd Deputy Governor, Bank of Ghana)
  • Business – Rev. Dr. Gifty Lamptey (CEO, SIDALCO Group of Companies)
  • Public Service – Dr. Afua Asabea Asare (CEO, GEPA)
  • Education – Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson (Vice-Chancellor, KNUST)
  • Media – Beatrice Agyemang (Group CEO, General Media Ltd)
  • Health – Ghana Health Service
  • Governance – Frema Osei Opare (Chief of Staff)
  • Young Star – Berla Addardey (Media personality)
  • Creative Arts – Nana Ama McBrown (Actress, media personality)
  • Technology – Ethel Delali Cofie (CEO, EDEL Technology Consulting)
  • Diaspora – Bozoma Saint John (Chief Marketing Officer, Netflix)
  • Lifetime Achievement – H.E. Judge Prof. Akua Kuenyehia (former judge, International Criminal Court)

The stage was graced with performances by Nakeeyat Dramani, TV3’s Talented Kidz season 10 winner, the sensational Efya, MOG and Akwaboah Junior. The event was hosted by the ace broadcaster and compère Anita Erskine.

A digital campaign against rape with the hashtags #ISaidNo #NoConsentNoSex was run along the event with influencers sharing their thoughts on the issue of rape. Another feature on the night was that of ‘What Success Means To You’ which had various phenomenal women in corporate, beauty and fashion circles elaborate on the concept of success.

The occasion was heavily attended by influential people across political, corporate and media circles including: Dzifa Gomashie, Hon. Robert Ahomka-Lindsay (Deputy Trade and Industry Minister), Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta (Finance Minister), Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (Communications Minister), Nadia Adongo Musah (Deputy Director, The Diaspora Affairs – Office of the President), Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison (Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister), Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Mr. Kwame Osei-Prempeh (MD & CEO, GOIL Company Ltd.), Mr. Patrick Akorli (Board Chairman, GOEnergy) among others.

It was indeed another inspirational evening that left both Honourees and guests feeling empowered and inspired.
