Toronto International Film Festival has unveiled its first lineup of films to debut at the festival.
Coming on board for its world premiere is Marielle Heller’s ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ starring Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers, the beloved educator and children’s TV personality. Todd Philip’s ‘Joker’ also features on the released lineup as well as DreamWorks Animation and Pearl Studios’ ‘Abominable’ ahead of its September 27, theater release date.
Out of the showing films are 29 world premieres, 6 international premieres (films that debuted in the U.S.), 13 North American premieres and 8 Canadian premieres. For the first time in TIFF history, 50% of the gala films announced are directed or co-directed by women and also for the first time in the history of cinema, a Canadian documentary will open the festival.
Hollywood A-listers such as Tom Hanks, Brie Larson, Nicole Kidman, Christian Bale, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx are expected to attend, thanks to their starred in pictures, which made the cut on the first lineup list. The festival will run from September 5-15.
