‘The Irishman’ leads 2019 AACTA Awards nominations

For top honors in the 2019 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards nominations, Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’ is dominating in six categories, which includes a best film and best director mention.

‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, is next on the top two with five nominations, followed by ‘Joker’ and Boon Jong Ho’s award season frontrunner film ‘Parasite’ earning four nominations apiece.

In its ninth season, Maggot Robbie records history by becoming the first actress to score two nominations in the same category with different movie titles. She is up for best supporting actress with ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ and ‘Bombshell’, going against her co ‘Bombshell’ film star Nicole Kidman and Toni Collette ‘Knives Out’, Florence Pugh ‘Little Women’.

The best director category is loaded with heavy-weights of the season such as Quentin Tarantino ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, Sam Mendes ‘1917’, Todd Philips ‘Joker’, Bong Joon Ho ‘Parasite’ and Martin Scorsese ‘The Irishman’.

‘The AACTA International Awards honor film excellence on a global scale, acknowledging international excellence within the screen industry. As always, we are thrilled to see many of our talented Australian practitioners and performers nominated for AACTA International Awards this year,” said AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella in a reported statement.
