Makeup tips for a youthful look

It is every woman’s wish to look young and beautiful; however, fighting against nature is not an easy task. However, there are remedies to help slow down the process and to help give the illusion of youth through the magic of MAKEUP!

Makeup is an extremely powerful tool. But when used wrongly, it can be disastrous. Here is a list of tips to help you achieve a youthful look for every day wear. Let’s get started.

  1. Prepped & Primed

Whether you have oily, dry or combination skin, hydrating the skin with a moisturiser is imperative. It will reduce fine lines and wrinkles. A primer’s job helps your foundation to sit better on the skin. It works as a double-sided sticky tape.

 2. Brows

When enhancing your brows, follow the natural outline and avoid thick, dark brows. Use a concealer to sharpen the shape by tracing the shape of the brow under and above and blend the concealer!

3. Solid Foundation

For a youthful look, it is best to go for a light to medium coverage. In the African climate we live in, I suggest going for an oil free foundation even if you have dry skin. It will last longer but will still give you the radiant look you desire. Choose your skin colour.

Tip: Use a foundation brush and a beauty blender.

4. Concealed:

Concealer should be one (1) shade lighter than your foundation. By using it under the eye area, it not only brightens under the eye; it also enhances your youthfulness.

5. Powdered:

The powder is to set and mattify. YOU DO NOT WANT TO KILL the beautiful GLOW you achieved with the foundation. Too much powder can make you look very dry and old. The powder should complement the foundation, should be half a shade lighter than your foundation. The same rule goes for the concealer.

6. Blushed:

For a vibrant youthful look, choose apricot, wine and pink!

7. The eyes have it!

  • Keep the eye simple with one colour.
  • Use an eye primer and apply all over eye zone 1 to 2 and 3 (please look at the guide).
  • Choose a colour like chocolate, burgundy, bronze and gold. Apply the colour from zone 2 and 3 to zone 4.
  • Line the eyes – use a matt black eye shadow and apply to the lash line in zones 2 and 3 to create a natural liner.
  • If your eyelid skin is a little loose, use a metallic eye shadow such as gold or bronze. Metallic colours reflect light. Don’t use loud colours.

Black Mascara is a must, use a lengthening one for afro-textured hair.

8. Lips

Apply lip balm on lips to stop cracking and flaking skin. Choose vibrant colours that will brighten your skin tone. Always use chocolate lip pencil, it will go with most of the colours and make the colour not so loud.

Enjoy applying and wearing your makeup, it is meant to be fun after all.
