GAFW17: Africa Fashion Rising!

The most anticipated Fashion event, Glitz Africa Fashion Week took place over the weekend at Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City in Accra and African fashion came alive! After an amazing street show in front of the Oxford Street Mall at Osu to officially open the weekend event, industry players and fashionistas were treated to a 3-day event of fashion seminars, presentations and runway shows.

The Emerging Designer of the Year award winner at Glitz Style Awards ’17, Quophi Akotuah opened the Friday show with his bridal gowns and won the admiration of everyone present. Other Ghanaian designers who featured on the runway included: Sante Trends, Madlyn Mode, Abrantie the Gentleman, Afro mod trends, Atto Tetteh, Chocolate clothing, Awovi Gh, Nallem Clothing, Nadrey Laurent, Jants Collection and Duaba Serwa.

We had designers from our sister country Nigeria like Mai Atafo, Tubo, Nuraniya, Rois et Reine, Kamsi TCharles, as well as from our Francophone counterparts like Yale Woody, Yhebe designs, Monsieur Barros, and David Tlale all the way from South Africa. Tiffany Amber and Christie Brown had private presentations.

There was a special presentation themed the ‘New Faces of Creativity’ with Lakopue, Papa Oppong, Kelvincent and Nathaniel Adjei-Bio. There was also a graduate show and a Jump on Glitz show, from winners of the #JUMPonGlitz competition. The seminar panel discussion themed, ‘Turning your Passion into a Global Brand’ featured designer Mai Atafo, LDJ producer Rachel Young, entrepreneur and coach Dzigbordi Dosoo and business strategist Comfort Sakoma, moderated by Makeba Boateng of Fashion Forum.
