The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has rolled out the 2022 award season with the Golden Globe nomination.
Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), Kristen Stewart (Spencer), Lady Gaga (House of Gucci) and Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter) have all received official tickets to the January 9 event as contenders for best actress in a motion picture, drama.
Netflix’s ‘The Power of the Dog’ and Focus Features’ ‘Belfast’ lead the field in the film category with seven nominations each including best motion picture, drama. They are up against ‘CODA’, ‘Dune’ and ‘King Richard’ from Apple and Warner Bros. respectively.
For best director, Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog) and Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Lost Daughter) join Steven Spielberg (West Side Story), Denis Villeneuve (Dune) and Kenneth Branagh (Belfast) for the race.
On the television side, Netflix shows ‘Lupin’ and Squid Game’ are in the line-up for best television series, drama alongside ‘The Morning Show’, ‘Succession’ and ‘Post’.
Jennifer Aniston returns as a nominee in the best performance by an actress in a television series, drama category. She faces off with Uzo Abudu (In Treatment), Christine Baranski (The Good Fight), Mj Rodriguez (Pose) and Globe alum Elizabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale).
The nominations were announced via livestream on the Golden Globe YouTube channel from the Beverly Hilton with Snoop Dog reading out the nominated names.
