Zoe Saldana & Reese Witherspoon developing limited series ‘From Scratch’ at Netflix

When ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ actor Zoe Saldana and ‘Beautiful Liars’ executive producer Reese Witherspoon team up for a production, the result is nothing more than the developing limited series ‘From Scratch’.

Set to stream on Netflix, ‘From Scratch’ will tell the story of an American woman who falls in love with a Sicillian man while studying abroad in Italy and then builds a life with him in the United States. When she unexpectedly loses him to illness, she is challenged to pull herself through grief so she can raise their daughter as they would have raised her together, with hope, joy and infinite love.

Both Reese and Zoe are on board as executive producers alongside Cisely, Mariel Saldana, Attica Locke and Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine partner Lauren Neustadter. Locke will adapt the book of the same name from Tembi Locke’s best-selling memoir and serve as showrunner to the series.

“This is a profound true story of love and family, deprivation and nourishment, that needs to be brought to life on the screen as Tembi Locke brought it vividly to life for me on the page. We are grateful to Netflix and thrilled to be working with Reese, Lauren, Attica and 3 Arts on this wonderful project.”

Reese, who has on the block a line-up of developing series under her Hello Sunshine banner currently has three running shows on Apple TV+, ‘The Morning Show’, ‘Truth Be Told’ and ‘You Think It, I’ll Say It.’

Vice President for original series at Netflix, Channing Dungey disclosed of the collaboration coming up, “Between the Locke sisters and the Saldana sisters, I’ve never seen a show that’s more of a family affair. Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine have been producing really exciting content, and we’re thrilled to make this powerful and emotional series with them.”

Production date for the series and its release date are yet to be announced by Netflix.
