Winners at BAFTA Awards ’18

Writer-director Martin McDonagh’s drama Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri won big at the EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, claiming five prizes, including best film.

The movie, about a grieving mother who rents three billboards to call attention to her daughter’s unsolved murder, also won the awards for outstanding British film, leading actress (Frances McDormand), supporting actor (Sam Rockwell), and original screenplay (McDonagh).

Gary Oldman won the award for leading actor with his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour; the film also won the award for makeup and hair. Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi love story The Shape of Water won three awards: director (Del Toro), original music (Alexandre Desplat), and production design.

Allison Janney received the award for supporting actress for her work in I, Tonya, and Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya won the EE Rising Star award, which is voted for by the public.
