The Kente trend at traditional marriages

In the Queen’s land, the mention of wedding brings in the haste of finding the perfect suite or gown matched up with a well decorated headpiece, for the ladies to complement their look.

In Nigeria, a perfectly combined African fabric together with an over the top head-gear works the magic for them when it comes to their traditional weddings. The choice of fabric to sow into a perfect outfit is entirely a different thing in every country.

In Ghana, kente, the silk and cotton fabric made of interwoven cloth strips has now become the most sought after for traditional weddings. Years the everyday African print wear ruled the market of traditional weddings, but things have changed since the coming in of a colorfully weaved Kente cloth.

While the guests go all white with their costume, the couple go in  for a touch of Kente mixed up with any color of the choice.

Although, the white wedding crowns every marriage and it is the fantasy of most Ghanaian ladies to wear a white gown covered in veil, looking good for one’s traditional wedding is never out of the equation of feeling different in style for the once-in-a-lifetime ‘Wedding’.

Known in the Akan ethnicity as ‘Nwentom’, kente has saved the day of most traditional weddings in Ghana. Talk of the Dumelo’s traditional wedding to the just ended Bibi Bright and husband, Akwasi Boateng’s wedding, it has always been that touch of Nwentom that adds to the spark of the day.

Here are a couple of celebrity traditional weddings with a jaw opening look at their matching Kente costume.
