Each year, Mother’s Day offers a moment to pause and honor the silent strength, fierce love, and quiet sacrifices that define motherhood. It’s more than a celebration; it’s a reminder of the profound journey women take to nurture, protect, and shape lives. This year, we sat down with the elegant and multifaceted Sika Osei—actress, TV host, producer, and now, mother to talk about what this new chapter means to her.

Sika Osei is a celebrated Ghanaian actress, producer, media personality, and beauty entrepreneur whose presence on screen and stage continues to inspire audiences across Africa. With a career spanning over a decade, Sika has hosted numerous high-profile events, starred in acclaimed Nollywood and Ghanaian productions, and carved a niche for herself as a fashion and beauty icon. She is also the co-founder of GlamHub, a beauty platform that champions self-expression and style. Beyond her accolades and on-screen charm, Sika is known for her authenticity, grace, and the empowering energy she brings into every space she enters. As she steps into this new chapter of motherhood, her journey becomes even more layered—proving that women can truly thrive in every season of life.

From unexpected health challenges to finding joy in the little things, Sika opens up about her emotional journey into motherhood, the evolution of her career, and the legacy she hopes to build for her daughter.

What’s one word that perfectly captures your journey into motherhood?
“Transformational.”

Did anything about becoming a mum surprise you—emotionally, mentally, or even physically?
“Everything about motherhood surprised me, especially in the beginning. I remember days when I would cry just by looking at her just because I was so overwhelmed with intense love, or even just underestimating the physical and mental strain that sleep deprivation would have on me. I couldn’t and sometimes still can’t believe that I am responsible for this whole other human being and that came with an unusual state of anxiety. But I am still grateful for the blessing that she is.

Another thing that was unexpected was being diagnosed with preeclampsia immediately after delivery. My blood pressure shot up to 170/100 which meant I developed high blood pressure that could have had disastrous consequences. It was extremely scary and took some time to stabilize. But though it was mentioned casually during the pregnancy phase I never really understood the seriousness of it until experiencing it myself.

Physically I bounced back to my old self quite quickly and I often get people in awe over the snap back. I tell them I’m as surprised as they are. But the hormonal roller coaster still continues even after 9 months and I wonder if that will ever go back to normal.

Yes, people shared their own personal experiences to help prepare me for motherhood, but the journey is unique for everyone and I have had to take mine in stride with the acceptance that good and bad, being a mother will forever be one of my greatest accomplishments and it has brought me more joy than I could have ever imagined.”

How has motherhood influenced your decisions in your career recently?
“If anything, it’s made me more focused and proactive in advancing my career. I have a new drive to succeed, to provide for my daughter and also eventually show her what it means to be a career woman, balancing life and passion. Interestingly though, I think being a new mother has rather impacted how people relate to me even career wise. There are certain opportunities that are being offered because I am a mother now and inversely me not being considered some roles for the same reason which I totally understand. My brand has evolved because of motherhood and I’m embracing what that comes with. However, there are certain elements of Sika Osei the person and the brand that I still hold dear, like my love for fashion for instance or even making the occasional funny TikTok and so I’m of the school of thought that where possible mothers should try not to completely lose themselves or feel the need to entirely change who they are because of societal pressures and expectations. The world will adjust.”

What’s a typical day in your life now?
“I wake up when baby wakes up which is usually around 6 to 6:30am. I pray, give baby a bath and breakfast mostly with the help of my mum and if I’m not scheduled to work that day it means I get to spend quality time with my daughter, feeding and the best part playing with her. During nap times, I’m able to sneak in some production work, friendly calls and maybe even a movie then it’s a wipe down for baby at 7:30pm with the hope to put her to bed by 8pm. Then I can go ahead and have some me time before heading to bed around 10:30pm.”

How do you create space for “Sika the star woman” amidst “Sika the mother”?
“Thankfully ‘Sika the star woman’ only needs space when I’m in front of the camera, working or hosting an event and that’s how it’s always been even prior to giving birth. Knowing that baby is safe with my mum means I’m able to fully be present and excel when working. Outside of that, I’m happy to take off the glam media personality hat and just exist in my regular makeup-less and wigless reality of being Sika the mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. It’s a very safe space with lots of calm and tranquillity and I’m happy I made that deliberate decision at the beginning of my career to make that separation for my own peace and sanity.”

What’s a random talent or hobby most people don’t know you have?
“As weird as it sounds I enjoy cleaning. Seeing well organised spaces makes me very happy and calms my mind. Another hobby I have that may surprise people is fashion styling. For now, I’ve been testing the waters mostly with my own family members and friends but I hope to take it seriously one day, so watch this space.”

What kind of environment are you hoping to raise your child in?
“First and foremost a God-fearing one. I pray it’s filled with unconditional love, abundance, laughter and mutual respect. Where creativity and education exist hand in hand and there is a freedom to express one’s self with respect whilst being taught that there is still wisdom in listening to elders.

I am determined for my child to have a memorable childhood like I did. Hopefully, that will be a blueprint for their own future children and instill in them the morals and world view that will help them thrive in this world successfully.”

If your child could describe you in three words someday, what would you want them to say?
“Intentional, Dependable and God-Fearing.”

What’s your guilty pleasure when you finally get some me-time?
“TikTok and Korean Dramas. Thou shall not judge lol.”

What song or artist is always on repeat when you’re driving solo?
“I’m a radio girl. Give me some old school RnB or even some Afro beat with some good conversation and I’m good.”

What does Mother’s Day mean to you now that you’re a mum?
“I now understand why mothers are called superwomen. It’s a lifelong commitment to love, live and sacrifice for others which cannot be taken for granted and now that I am a mother myself it just gives me a deeper appreciation and understanding of my own mum; her struggles, life choices etc. It makes me proud that I am now a part of this sisterhood of truly phenomenal women, who are life makers, destiny changers and of course nation builders and I’m happy that my mum is alive to witness it too.”

What would you tell your younger self, knowing the woman and mother you are today?
“I would tell younger Sika to trust in the timing of her life, God is in control. The fear and anxiety over an unknown future or the feelings of inadequacy and failure will pass because life has a way of equipping you with the skills to tackle the seasons you are in. Every experience and lessons learnt along the way was necessary and prepared me for the woman I’ve become. It has led to my growth and now I make decisions with the confidence and foresight needed to be the best mother and role model I can be.”

Motherhood is often described as one of life’s most sacred and transformative roles—and rightly so. It is celebrated every year not just for the sacrifices women make, but for the deep well of love, strength, and purpose they draw from. Through Sika Osei’s heartfelt reflections, we are reminded that while the journey of being a mother comes with its fair share of surprises, struggles, and uncharted emotional terrain, it also births an unmatched sense of joy, identity, and fulfillment. Her story is a celebration of resilience, intentionality, and the unwavering beauty of womanhood in its fullest form.
