Rita Moreno to receive Peabody Career Achievement Award

For a captivating character on and off screen such as Rita Moreno, achieving an EGOT status is not enough, but just a starter for more honorary titles to follow. The 1961 Academy award best supporting actress winner is on the way to achieving a PEGOT status, as she will receive the Career Achievement Award at this year’s Peabody Awards, presented by Mercedes Benz.

Commenting on the caliber of the 87-year-old formidable actress of all time, Jeffrey P. Jones, executive director of Peabody disclosed, “Rita Moreno is a unique talent who has not only broken barriers, but whose career continues to thrive six-plus decades after her acting debut. We are delighted to celebrate her many contributions to entertainment and media, as well as her passion for children’s programming and important social issues.”

The Career Achievement Award is said to be awarded to an individual whose works and commitment to electronic media has left an indelible mark on the field.

Moreno is the bearer of several honorary titles, aside her EGOT plaques. She was the 50th recipient of the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement award in 2013 and won the Ellis Island Medal of Honor on May 11, 2018. In 2004, Moreno was awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom from president George W. Bush and also got inducted into the California Hall of Fame in 2007.

Moreno will be presented with the Peabody Career Achievement Award, alongside fellow Peabody Award winners on Saturday, May 18 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. The ceremony is sponsored by Mercedes Benz, which will also charm as the official automobile for the 78th show.
