Plussize Fashion Week Africa to take place in November

Plussize Fashion Week Africa is back, this time it promises to be bigger, better and more exciting. Following the success of the maiden edition of the fashion show dedicated to celebrating the plus sized African woman, the planning towards the second edition is in full gear.

This year’s edition is set to hold on Saturday, November 3, 2018, and Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Main Banquet Hall, Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The activities this year has already begun with the search for Africa’s Next Plus-size Model (ANPM), where the participants will grace the stage at the PFWAFRICA and the winner will get international modelling exposure.

This year’s modelling competition will only be open to the models under the Golden Curvy modelling agency as it is the number 1 plussize modelling agency in Nigeria, and this guarantees that the models will be well trained by the best and of a high standard. We will also ensure that this year’s participants have parental consent to travel and model if they do win.

There would be exhibitions running for the two days where designers and retailers will display their wares for the hundreds of people that will attend from all over the world. Emerging and established designers will also be bringing their A—game to the PFWAFRICA runway to showcase their creativity and diversity.

On the Finale day, we will be launching and having the maiden edition of our Masterclass called “Glow up and Flawless”. This year masterclass will see plus-sized ladies being taught about mental well-being, body positivity and self-confidence. The finale day will close with The Fashion Gala Night which is set to be an exclusive event where awards will be given to those who have contributed immensely in Plussize industry in Africa.

This year’s Plussize Fashion Week Africa is themed #BeautifullyMe and it as all about self-awareness.

On the inspiration behind the theme #beautifullyme, Temi Aboderin-Alao the conveyer of PlusSize Fashion Week Africa says, “Being a Christian, the bible says that we are faithfully and wonderfully made, this means that God has made us beautiful. So, #beautifullyme is how God has made me and I am striving to be the best version of who I am”.

The Plussize Fashion Week Africa was birthed out of the need to stop the stigmatization and body shaming of the plus-sized woman, we believe that every woman should be comfortable in her skin and body regardless of what the society thinks as long as they are healthy.
