MAD Magazine ceases publication of new content in subsequent issues

Leading US satirical magazine, MAD, will cease publication of new contents effective with the release of issue 11 this fall. DC, which publishes the magazine, disclosed to ABC in a statement, “After issue #10 this fall there will no longer be new content -except for end of year specials which will always be new. So starting with issue #11, the magazine will feature classic, best of and nostalgic content from the last 67 years.”

In addition to not producing new content in their publications is the closure of sale on newsstands across the US, but will only be available through comic book shops as well as mailed to subscribers. DC will however, continue publishing MAD books and collections.

Following the news of the recent changes with the magazine’s publications leading to a possible shut down in the near future, cartoonist Evan Dorkin, who works with the publication took to twitter confirming his departure and sadness about the changes made, “Today we won’t end. Goodbye, MAD Magazine. As a youngster I was a huge fan of the 70’s era, as a young adult I recommended the 50’s comics, as an old nerd I somehow became a contributor (often working w/@colorkitten) for the last decade + Getting the e-mail today was crushing. For all intent and purposes, MAD is folding,” he wrote.

American singer “Weird Al” Yankovic, also mused on Twitter regarding the halt of new content publications and how the magazine was of impact to him in his young life, he tweeted, “I am profoundly sad to hear that after 67 years, MAD Magazine is ceasing publication. I can’t begin to describe the impact it had on me as a young kid-it’s pretty much the reason I turned out weird. Goodbye to one of the all-time greatest American institutions. #ThanksMAD.”

Throughout its decades long of existence, 550 regular issues were released, as well as hundreds of reprint specials, original material paperbacks, reprint compilation books and other print projects. The numbering of its publications reverted to 1 after its June 2018 issue coincided with the movement of its headquarters to the West Coast.

The 11 issue of the publication is set for release coming August 2019.
