Ava DuVernay & Kat Candler set to develop Texas Labor Union series at TNT

Kat Candler and Ava DuVernay are re-teaming for an undisclosed drama series title in works under TNT after their ‘Queen Sugar’ series collaboration.

To be written and executive produced by Kat Candler, the one-hour drama will chronicle the life of a struggling young wife and mother who in the aftermath of a deadly oil refinery explosion that takes the life of an old friend will go on to lead one of the biggest labor union strikes in Texas history.

DuVernay will also executive produce the project under her flagship production house Array Filmworks. Warner Horizon Scripted Television is on board as the studio house for the developing project.

Signing off a content development deal with Warner Bros. Television Group, DuVernay’s roster of magic works in film continues to climb the ladder as she recently wrapped up productions off her Emmy-winning Netflix limited series ‘When They See Us’. She is also working on an anthology series ‘Cherish the Day’ at OWN and again set to take a directorial role for an adaptation of the DC comic ‘DMZ’, commissioned at HBO.

Candler is also credited in Hollywood with television shows namely; ‘Queen Sugar’, ’13 Reasons Why’, ’12 Monkeys’, ‘Being Mary Jane’, ‘Sorry for Your Loss’, ‘Hellion’ and many others.
