Adam Driver walks out from NPR interview over ‘Marriage Story’ played clip

In between 2020 award season buzz for his performance in ‘Marriage Story’, Adam Driver is making headlines as a result of walking out of an interview conducted on NPR’s talk show ‘Fresh Air’ with Terry Gross.

The said incident occurred at the NPR New York office, where Driver was recording his side of a radio interview to be played on air by Gross at the ‘Fresh Air’s’ head studio in Philadelphia. Whiles recording, the production team played a clip of the actor singing a rendition of ‘Being Alive’, one of the scenes from ‘Marriage Story’, but unfortunately the act went against the publicly known post production ethics of the Golden Globes nominee.

“We knew from our previous interview with Adam Driver that he does not enjoy listening back to clips of his movies (that isn’t unusual, a lot of actors feel that way). Terry invited him to take off his headphones while he played back the 20 second clip, and that our engineer in New York would cue him to put his headphones back on after the clip ended (we also did this during our 2015 interview). But this time around, after the clip concluded we were informed by our engineer in NY that he had walked out of the studio, and left the building. We still don’t understand why Adam Driver chose to leave the interview at that point,” explained Danny Miller, executive producer of ‘Fresh Air’ in a statement.

It was spoken out by Driver on the ‘Fresh Air’ show back in 2015 about his disinterest in watching or listening to his own performances, “Yeah, no I’ve watched myself or listened to myself before, then always hate it. And then wish I could change it, but you can’t. And I think I have, like a tendency to try to make things better or drive myself and the other people around me crazy with the things I wanted to change or wish I could change,” said Driver.

Variety reports that, during the screening of Spike Lee’s Oscar winning film ‘Blackkklansman’, Driver hid in a greenroom to prevent catching himself live in action on the big screen. He also reportedly went nauseous during a premiere of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.

With the 2020 award season coming up early next month, Driver has booked his seat at the Golden Globes and SAG awards as a nominee for his ‘Marriage Story’ performance. He returns to cinemas this Friday, December 20, with his third and final appearance in the ‘Star Wars’ movie ‘The Rise of Skywalker”.
