2020 Creative Arts Emmy Awards: winners list

The 2020 Emmy pickups have started with The Creative Arts Emmys, which honors outstanding artistic and technical achievement in a variety of television program genres, guest performances in weekly series, as well as exceptional work in the animation, reality, and documentary categories.

The virtual ceremony kicked- started on Monday, September 14 with HBO’s ‘The Appolo’ winning outstanding documentary or non-fiction special. ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1)’ also won for outstanding casting for a reality program.

Night two of the event, Tuesday September 15, afforded HBO three more wins for ‘Last Week Tonight with a John Oliver’ in the outstanding writing for a variety series, outstanding technical direction, camerawork, video control for a series (episode 629) and outstanding picture editing for variety programming (Eat Shit Bob! segment) categories. In the outstanding music direction category, CBS won for ‘The Kennedy Centre Honors’ while Eddie Murphy’s Saturday Night Live hosted episode NBC an outstanding direction for a variety series.

Apple TV + bagged its first Emmy win with ‘Carpool Karaoke: The Series’ in the outstanding short form Variety series category.

Night three, which took place on Wednesday, September 16, also scored Disney + its first Emmy wins in the outstanding cinematography for a single-camera series (half-hour) for (The Mandalorian, “Chapter 7: The Reckoning”), outstanding production design for a narrative program (half-hour) for (The Mandalorian, “Chapter 1: The Mandalorian”), outstanding sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (half-hour) and animation and outstanding special visual effects for (The Mandalorian, “Chapter 2: The Child”).
